# Turn on the app embed

> Switch on the Cb Customer Cart Widget in your theme so the widget and Cart IDs appear on your storefront.

The cart widget is delivered as a Shopify **app embed**. App embeds are switched off by default in every theme, so this is the one step you must do yourself.

## From the Setup Guide (recommended)

**1. Open the Setup Guide**

Open the app. The **Setup Guide** card is at the top of the home page and shows how many steps you've completed (for example, *1 / 3 completed*).

**2. Click Enable App Embed**

Expand **Initial Set Up** and click **Enable App Embed**. Your theme editor opens in a new browser tab with the app embed already selected.

**3. Switch it on and save**

In the theme editor's **App embeds** panel, make sure **Cb Customer Cart Widget** is on, then click **Save** (top right).

**4. Confirm in the app**

Return to the app tab. The app re-checks your theme about 10 seconds after you clicked the button, and the step shows an **Activated** badge. If you took longer, reload the home page.

## From the theme editor

If you prefer to do it by hand:

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Online Store → Themes**.
2. Next to your live theme, click **Customize**.
3. In the left sidebar, click the **App embeds** icon.
4. Switch on **Cb Customer Cart Widget** (from *CB Customer Cart Manager*) and click **Save**.

>
> The app checks your **live (published) theme**. If you switch on the embed in an unpublished theme, the Setup Guide won't show it as activated — and shoppers won't see the widget — until that theme is published.

## When you change themes

App embeds are saved per theme. If you publish a new theme, or a fresh copy of your theme, switch the embed on again in that theme.

## Previewing in the theme editor

While you're inside the theme editor, the widget behaves slightly differently so you can see it easily:

* It's shown on **every page**, regardless of your [page visibility settings](https://codebeans-customer-cart-manager.mintlify.site/storefront/visibility.md).
* If the popup is enabled, it opens after about **2 seconds** so you can check how it looks.

Your real visitors still see the widget only where your settings allow.

## What the setup guide checks

The Setup Guide has three steps. Each one is ticked automatically:

| Step | Ticked when |
| - | - |
| **Initial Set Up** | The app embed is switched on in your live theme. |
| **Modify Cart Widget** | You've saved a template other than the default *Classic Elegance*. |
| **Configure App Settings** | You've saved your settings at least once. |

You can also tick a step yourself by clicking its circle, or hide the whole guide from the **⋯** menu → **Dismiss**. When all three steps are done, the guide hides itself.
